FOAS has been helping with medical care for the many cats from a hoarding case (read even more here). This is one of the cats who received medical care at PETS Emergency in Berkeley.

There are many cats available for adoption — please spread the word!

Thank you!

We are so grateful for everyone’s support this past year. Please download (PDF) our 2011 Year in Review and learn more about the projects you’ve helped us accomplish, the animals we’ve helped, and other ways to support Oakland’s shelter animals. Thank you!

Scarlet sweetheart

This pomeranian girl came to OAS with a bad leg injury. FOAS funded her amputation and Scarlet is recovering well at the shelter.

Once she’s healed she’ll be ready for adoption! Let us know if you’re interested in meeting her.

A reason to smile

Sundance just got surgery to fix his injured lip.

He is all stitched up and on the mend!

Go to our calendar page to see more images! You can get one in person at OAS for a $20 donation or by donating online ($25 donation includes shipping).

Because two generous sponsors–Inland Metal and an anonymous donor–donated to cover the costs of calendar printing, all proceeds from calendar sales go directly towards helping shelter animals. A big thank you to our sponsors!

This sweet young chihuahua was surrendered at OAS after his owners could not afford treatment for his injured eye.

Friends of Oakland Animal Services paid for his eye removal surgery and neutering. He is recovering well! After he heals, he will be up for adoption. Let us know if you’re interested! He is super sweet and cuddly and friendly with everyone.

Granite and Guido are sweet Schnauzers who were badly in need of medical and dental treatment, funded by FOAS.

Thank you!

Mark your calendars! We hope to see you there!

We have a new place in the shelter especially for puppies (though all dogs and people are welcome): the Otis Room.

Formerly a drab space in the lobby that previously held cages, OAS volunteers and FOAS worked to transform it into a cheerful visiting room for matchmaking between dogs and adopters. First, FOAS funded new flooring to be put in and we added a bench for more comfortable seating:

Then the industrial colors were replaced with a coat of yellow paint and a mural.

It is now one of the most inviting areas in the shelter to snuggle up with a pup, and we encourage you to visit!
